our school

Guess what?! More isrelies!
Its shlomo here....
Last wendsday I went to visit the other Israeli family, here in Dalian. I had ti take the local train to the industrial zone (kay fa chu - in Chinese). They live there...
When I came out of the station I needed to take a taxi. I had to pick between a normal car taxi and a motor cycle one...I took the normal one. By the way, nobody in china wears helmet when using a motorcycle.
Anyway, after a few rounds and phone calls , because the driver was lost on those suppose to be 5 ninutes of driving, I got to their house.
Bat sheva , avi and their 4 kids are living in china for 4 years already, 2 of them are in dalian. They are from gush misgav up at the north of Israel, near Carmiel. Avi is working for bagir company in Israel.
I spent there a few hours. The oldest daughter is learning in university in Macao. The next one finished high school here. The other 2 boys are 13(?) And 3 (yes , they have a kid! ).
I thought there are more Israelies here, they said they are the only ones here , but there are more Jews working in other working places here , And They celebrate Jewish holidays together.
I got to know them through a Jewish girl that is here for a few month and though I haven't met her in parson I asked her to contact me with them.

And there were about 10,000 people....you're probably saying...thats nothing....belive me it felt like on on lot more!!!espiacally when there's water each way we look...for like 1/2 hour!!! Finally we got of the glass box....we went to the show...and it's filled with people! On benches! So in other words.. We had pt no pot where to sit. So we leaned against the rail. And people were still coming in (it was inside) so people start pushing you. And keep in mind that there is nothing stopping you from falling on top of all the people who are seated!!!!! soo... If anyone's back is hurting come to china...you'll get an amazing massage

Dalian Shopping
Achievement of the day: Got in & out of the ant's nest
We are getting there! We have started with the ‘overUSprices’ but we have finally found a place where things are given away. (so to speak). It is the ‘things’ market. Chinese call everything ‘things’. Anyway it is an old 5 story building my guess is has 70,000 SF each floor. It has hundreds of small shops selling everything like houseware, cloths, bags, carpets, electronics. Each section is selling different category. Shoes- off course how can I forget the 185 yuan Adidas for Udi that took us 20 minutes to negotiate. Initial asking was 285 yuan.I have found out I was born Chinese --- I discovered I negotiate better than they do.(or maybe I only think that way) Quality so so but prices are at China levels. Then we went to the underground shopping mall. This is a sight to see. It has probably ten story all underground. We got lost. It is huge! we got in and couldn’t find the way out. Thousands of small shops. We got in one way and found ourselves outside on the street in complete different location. We are still trying to figure out how big this place is. Even the locals having hard time to map the place. Dalian has freezing temp in the winter so it is all underground – amazing. I was feeling like an ant. 10,000 ants all buying ‘things’. How about 100 stores one next to each other all selling cell phones?? Or shoes?? Or bags?? Or Clair’s ??
We will be there again I promise. Some part of our family like bags and Adi is coming here next month.......

a trip to nowhere
Achievement of the Day: We actually got out alive out the 10000 Chinese in the car
A day at the Dalian Sea Aquarium
Udi is back to life and school. Thanks to our trip doctor Dr. Seth. He is always there when we need him.
Reminder: this is the second time we are trying to get to see the Famous Dalian Asia Sea World. (what a long name for such a short trip) We already tried to go there once before but we got to another aquarium close to size of our own LJ pool (….my chinese IS getting better now I can even point to the taxi driver where to go… on the map of course …. last time I tried to tell him how to go and we got nowhere) now we were very excited we finally found IT. Not long ago China received back Hong Kong and in order to celebrate …or commemorate the event they decided to build the largest square in Asia. ( reminder : this is where we had our first live TV debut). Next to the square we found the famous Dalian Asia Sea Aquarium. We paid our 300 Yuan and got in. ( I am sure the lady pocketed 250 Yuan). It is a Monday (not a weekend or holiday) and the place looked like there is a free event going on. Hundreds of buses. Millions of people. Claustrophobic is understatement. Thousands and thousands of people are stacked on top of each other to watch some big fish push a small human being in the air through a 50 feet pool. And applaud..give me a break. We did not have sit and were constantly pushed (literally), 5 minutes into the show off we go…. My patience is running low. We did not even think about a rebate straight to the taxi.(try to explain what you want and why you want it) Lucky Udi he did not go! SeaWorld here we come. Yearly membership.

what you do on a sunny day in Dalian?
This is a weather forecast from china: sun sun
sun!
I haven't had a day like yesterday (and today) since i arrived here.
A few days ago my teacher told me about her hiking clubs( she is registered in 2 of them).
These people meet at week ends for hiking in the mountains around and during the week they
are hiking at a park in Dalian.
Since it was a clear day and the weather was great (at the day before it was raining the
whole day) the event was about to happen. So she invited me to join.
I met my teacher near school and we took a bus and an electric train to the park (the electric
train stop is in the middle of a square ( which is a circle, remember?) in order to reach it
you have to Cross the roads with dozens of cars going everywhere and no pedestrian crossings.
Also, the cars has no routs on the square, so everyone just go wherever the want. scary!
we reached the park 25 minutes early. She told me that the group is meeting at 19:00 since
after this hour the park is free.
we got near that gate and dozens of people just sit and wait for the gate keepers to walk away. On the gate itself there were 8 (!!!) keepers. why?!
at some point it was so obvious everybody is waiting there just to go in and not pay. The keepers were there till exactly 19:00, not a minute less!
Finally we entered the park, there was still some light to i went and took some pics( they are in michals last post. They are at the same batch with the pics from the park here near our hotel. so it's confusing...(look for the statues and sea in my pics).
I walked with 15 Chinese. It wasn't a hard walk but at some point the road became pretty steep...
It's a beautiful park with beautiful statues of people and sea creatures (fish, jelly fish, sharks, sea turtles, amazing things!)
It was a really good exercise and i enjoyed it more than going to the gym across from our door.
have a shabbat shalom!
